The first ultrasound aka Lizzie the lizard (2min read)

( An authentic chat between me and my friend after my first ever ultrasound)

S:”Hey Hannah, quick question: The nurse would have said something if something wasn’t right with the ultrasound right?? I just feel like the picture looks rather scary like not how the baby is supposed to look like haha”

H:” Of course any time, no 100% they have to tell you if something is wrong! I think because it’s only 8 weeks they don’t look like much at all, remember I had quite a few scans and that round bit is the yolk sac!xxx”
At this point she sent me a few pics she found on google “Look at this from google, looks very similar xx”

S: ” Ohhh wow they grow a lot in a few weeks then.I looked at a lot of pics online but mine looks so long, like a lizard. I don’t want to give birth to a dragon, my vagina is not ready for this”

H: ” πŸ˜€ A lizard?!! Yess!! So this one was 9 weeks 2 days and that’s when they start looking like a bit more of a baby, so you can start to see head and little arms and leg buds”

S:” I find it so hard to see. I think they need to tell me where what is next time. I really hope mine will look more human next time, I’m so anxious now haha”

H:” Don’t worry they will have to tell you xx”

S:” Ok good phew… so what is this then?? The tail!!?- It’s a lizard Im telling you haha”

H:” It’s not a lizard πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ “

S:” Omg , if its a girl I will have to call it Lizzie now”

H:” The round bit with the white outline is the yolk sac , which turns into the placenta so the bit attached is the baby, but if you think baby is less than 2cm at the moment”

S:  “Ohhhhhhhhhhhh so the baby is upside down?”

H:” Its hard to tell πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ i could be either way πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ “

S: “I totally think it is, Ahhh that’s a game changer, not so much Lizzie after all”

H: “Exactly”

S: “Thanks so much. Once again you have saved my worried ‘mum to be day’ Please never mention this to my Child”
